In my heart are two wolves battling for dominance, and like all siblings, they take turns winning. Their names are minimalism and maximalism. These days, minimalism is putting up its best fight.
Minimalism is often misunderstood as unfun, boring, uninspired. I resent this. Basics are really fun, and they’re only as boring as you let them be. There’s no reason for t-shirts to be unstyled, for monochrome looks to lack texture and visual interest, for clean lines and simple forms to look serious and without personality.

This year, the street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week has resonated with me a lot. There is a ton of variation, but the big color story is blues, browns, reds, whites, and blacks. I love to see it, honestly, because red and blue as a color combo is one of my all time faves, and my closet is personally full of it.
Scandinavian style is one of those design languages that somehow manages to master maximalism and minimalism so beautifully in a way that feels like neither has to compete with the other in your wardrobe, and that’s a big part of why Copenhagen is such a treat to see every Fashion Month. We’ve picked out some of our favorite street styles of the week.

Boyshorts
Underwear has been one of the biggest trends this year, both on the runway and on celebrities. I know it’s scary, but come onnnnn! It looks hot.
It’s a bathing suit. If you can wear it to the beach, you can wear it in Soho.
There are so many red cardigans out there, and you may think it’s crazy to care about a detail so small, but this is who I am, and the tiny white, mother of pearl buttons totally captured my heart.
-
Blues and Browns
It’s nothing new that brown has become the new black (kind of), but did you know that baby blue is the new white? This color combo is so elite, and a suit and shirt is the perfect application.
Calvin Klein Wool Twill Blazer
This wool blazer is shockingly very on sale and affordable right now. Do with that what you will.COS Oversized Tailored Shirt
COS is a great place to get minimalist pieces and basics, and I love this shirt.

Mixed Textures
This look is so exciting to me. Personally I love that capris are in right now, I know there are mixed reviews, but if you’re not so into it, look at this adorable outfit and reconsider. The socks with heels are also such a sweet part of this look.
Low Rise Pintuck Capri Pant
Don’t resist capris. They’re here, and they’re adorable.
A shiny little statement heel with socks. Imagine it.
-
Slip Dress + Trench
I absolutely adore this look. It’s sexy but casual about it. That’s the power of a slip and trench.
You really can go with any slip dress in any color way, that’s kind of the beauty here—it would look great as a mini too—but this one is very similar to the one in the photo.
The Frankie Shop Umi Belted Trench
I love this trench coat from the Frankie Shop for this because the color is really deep and olivey.
-
Canadian Tuxedo With a Twist
This is such a good look, especially because the a Canadian tuxedo rarely gets a remix. The blue striped shirt underneath adds this visual difference while keeping the look uniform and monochrome.
I think the look could work with the vest closed or open!
Étienne oversized shirt in striped cotton poplin
There are lots of different stripes and lots of different blues. I personally love that one has a blue that’s closer to the color of denim.

Dark Prep
When she’s not performing for sold-out stadiums in sparkly bodysuits and gowns, Taylor Swift opts for a simple summer-style aesthetic. She’s provided minimalist-style inspiration all summer while heading in and out of a recording studio in New York City. This summer look proves that minimalist style can still have a frilly, girly edge.
COS Balloon Hem Maxi Skirt
This balloon hem skirt is such a cute twist on a pleated skirt, like oh my god, obsessed.
Women’s Oversized Long Sleeve Collared Button-Down Shirt
This shirt from Target is perfect, and it also goes all the way up to a 4X.
