Students from Penn State’s Fashion Society share recent trends, favorite outfits to wear on campus | Lifestyle

The Fashion Society at Penn State unites fashion lovers, and provides its members with opportunities within the fashion community. Those who have a love for fashion and a dream to pursue it in their near futures are encouraged to join.

Current club member Zachary Abundo said that around campus students typically dress for comfort rather than style.

“Athleisure wear is really big here,”Abundo, a second-year student studying public relations, said. “Brands like Nike and Adidas are huge because this is such a big campus to walk around and no ones going to class in flats or loafers for their entire day.”

Weekends at Penn State require a different type of uniform according to Abundo.

“On weekends I see a lot of bar inspired outfits,” Abundo said. “There’s a lot of boots, some denim skirts and I’ve definitely seen a lot of fur recently.”

Abundo’s personal style ranges pretty uniquely on a day-to-day basis, depending on the unpredictable weather in State College.

“I love wearing baggy bottoms and small tops, or big tops and small bottoms with some layering,” Abundo said.“I just love mixing up variations in my style.”

Teagan Borelli said that students around campus are often seen wearing similar, basic attire.

“During the day I definitely see a lot of sweat suits and casual looks,” Borelli, a fourth-year studying communications and media studies, said.

Borelli said that she dresses quite uniquely compared to other students at Penn State, and she follows more high fashion trends rather than the typical basics.

“I’m always adapting new styles because I really like studying high fashion stuff,” Borelli said.

“My favorite thing to do is to watch fashion shows, and when I’m thrifting I’m always trying to find things that implement those items that I like, which implement higher fashion.”

Members of the Fashion Society are constantly embracing their unique styles and new trends, making efforts to stand out on campus.

Sammy Vaillancourt said she sees basic trends on campus and believes that people should express themselves more and make efforts to stand out.

“People wear overpriced sweat suits and that is no fun after a while”, Vaillancourt, a fourth-year studying corporate innovation and entrepreneurship, said. “The campus uniform is that overpriced sweat set.”.

Vaillancourt shared her approaches to her daily looks.

“My go-to look is one that is loud and fun, I take pride in crafting outfits each morning that make me feel confident and original,” Vaillancourt said. “My style is influenced by what I see in magazines, thrift stores, Pinterest and other digital media.”
